Just to give you a quick update on the last few days. On Friday we went on a cruise along the south coast of Jersey. It really is amazing all the history and the influence the German's have had upon the landscape. They invaded Jersey during the second World War and occupied it for over 5 years. Dotted around the coast are huge concrete structures that were erected during this time to keep an eye out for enemies. Also huge cannon and gun casements, that are really quite ugly in the fantastic rocky landscape.
Today the boys had their first game and started with a fantastic haka. It was amazing and brought tears to my eyes. The entire tournament were videoing and taking pictures and I bet the boys all felt like celebrities. The weather was amazing and conditions perfect. Unfortunately they lost, which was a shame but they played really well at times, so not too bad a start.
This afternoon we popped over to the East coast of Jersey, to a place called Goray. Sitting on the rocky coastline, 13 miles from France is an enormous 1000 year old castle. It has been added to over the years by different rulers, but is full of tiny, winding, steep stairs and dungeons where the prisoners were held. Some places were quite eerie. The kids all dressed up and tore around the castle dressed as knights and princesses, fighting with swords and shields. What an incredible place. See if you can check it out online and get a picture in your minds as to where we were.
Goray is a tiny seaside village with wee fishing boats and mansions set on the high hills. They farm potatoes, so next time you head to the supermarket check out 'Jersey bennies' as this is where they come from. They are really yummy!
We have finally found a good coffee place. They are few and far between!!
Anyway, we are loving Jersey with its narrow streets and houses full of history. It is a tax haven here and some very wealthy people live here. The cars are small but very stylish. We saw an Aston Martin yesterday and there are many convertibles. It is too small for 4 wheel drives.
Take care you all and keep working on those special person pieces of writing as I want to be 'well impressed' (English saying) when I get back.
